Master in Computational Mathematics

The overall aim of the Master in Computational Mathematics is to provide advanced mathematical training in fields on the border between mathematics and computing. The course is designed, on the one hand, to extend  the mathematical training of informatics engineering graduates and, on the other, to give science and engineering graduates (mathematics, physics, engineering, etc.) access to knowledge of computing techniques and tools to apply and add to their mathematical training.

Master's Degree

Students will be awarded a Master in Computational Mathematics degree certificate, expressly stating the major concentration that they have taken as their specialization. This could be any of the following:

Curriculum

To earn the Master’s degree, it is compulsory for students to take:

Students interested in taking a more intensive specialization can opt for the following alternative:

Students will complete the Master course in just over one academic year: the 60 subject credits from October to June, and the master thesis in just a few more months.

The master thesis is a theoretical or theoretical/practical assignment, involving a detailed study of a specific field. Through their master thesis, students are expected to demonstrate an ability to understand, analyse and synthesize advanced knowledge (beyond what they have acquired on the course) within an area, as well as potential for innovation.

Admission to doctoral studies

This master course has an additional research track, qualifying students for doctoral studies (see requirements) without having to complete a master thesis. For admission to doctoral studies, students have to take subjects worth 60 ECTS specified by their thesis supervisor before completing their PhD thesis.

For more information, see the Facultad de Informática's official postgraduate programme.
