The subject shall be managed by a coordinator appointed by the Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and a committee.
The subject committee shall be composed of:
The number of professors representing each department shall be calculated after allocating the assignments and shall be proportional to the number of full-time professors attached to the department (two part-time professors shall be equivalent to one full-time professor). These professors shall be appointed by the heads of department.
The subject shall have three deliverables with common submission dates:
Each submission for each of the deliverables shall be graded from 0 to 10. Late submissions shall not be accepted.
All deliverables shall be posted on the Facultad de Informática's intranet (e.g. using Moodle) and be accessible to all subject professors.
The students' first task will be to document the description of the work according to the instructions given by the supervisor in the early work sessions. They shall specify the objectives students are to achieve and a preliminary work schedule. The document should be no more than three pages long and be divided into three parts:
Recommendations for assessment: of the 10 points allocated to this deliverable, three shall be used to assess each of the three parts of the document and one point to score the overall presentation.
In the second deliverable, students shall have to submit a document describing the work completed to date, plus any modifications that they have had to make to their original work plan. The document shall be no more than five pages long and shall be divided into five sections:
Recommendations for assessment: of the 10 points allocated to this deliverable, three shall be used to assess sections 4 and 5 of the document, one point to evaluate the other three sections and another one point to score the overall presentation.
Students must upload their final reports to the subject electronic repository before the first day of the applicable examination session. The first two pages of this report shall contain a brief summary describing the computer system developed during the course (if this system is based on another existing system, the report should stress the changes made). Each assignment supervisor shall define the structure of the remainder of the document and the maximum number of pages.
If students do not wish to opt for a grade of 7 or above, the submitted documentation shall be assessed by their supervisor only.
To opt for a grade of 8 or above, students must present their work in a public session before a board of professors belonging to the committee. Students shall inform their supervisor that they would like to present their assignment at this session before the first day of the applicable examination session.
Note: The members of the board could give the assignment a grade of less than 7.
The presentations shall take place on the official examination days and at the times specified for the subject in each session. Without express permission from the Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs subject to registration of documentary evidence as stipulated in the Examinations Policy, these dates are unmoveable.
Several presentation sessions shall be held simultaneously. There will be a board of three committee members in each session. Students shall not be allowed to present their assignment at a session where their supervisor is on the board.
Students shall be given no more than 10 minutes to present the produced computer system. This shall be followed by a five-minute question and answer session. These times shall be strictly observed.
One day before the public presentation, students must upload their presentation in PowerPoint, Open Office or PDF format to the subject electronic repository (e.g. Moodle). Students must use a laptop provided by the Facultad de Informática for the presentation, and software demonstrations (e.g. requiring configuration or additional software to be installed, connection to the Internet, etc.) shall not be acceptable. Students shall download their presentation from the electronic repository at the time of the presentation. This way they will not have to connect any device to transfer files to the laptop.
If, for any justified reason (speech difficulties, diction problems, anxiety, neurosis, agoraphobia, etc.), any students consider that they should not be expected to present their work under the same conditions as their fellow students, they should notify the subject committee at least one month in advance of the date of the examination so that it can look into and, if necesary, treat the case as an exception to the rule.
Each student's final grade shall be based on three deliverables: Work Plan (10%), Interim Report (10%) and Final Report (80%).
The first two deliverables shall be graded by the assignment supervisor. The committee shall review these deliverables and their grades.
Supervisors shall award a reasoned grade (accompanied by a brief text) to the final report. They shall enter the grade in the subject management system before the date of the oral presentations. The examination board shall award the final grade taking into account the supervisor's grade and remarks.
Additionally, assignments could be selected at random for presentation by their authors in public sessions.
